A few words...

 For my first blog post, I suppose an introduction of myself is in order and my intent with this blog.

My name is Tim and I am a middle aged, middle class father of two and a Christian. My education level, officially, is some college; however, I am a firm believer in self-education and continuing education. 

What I have seen in our political environment disturbs me and I will be using this blog to post my thoughts and express what I perceive to be a better path forward. My intent is to use topics and occurances that we experience today and apply historical perspective to these things in hopes of aiding in navigation of a better path. My thoughts are mine alone, but some reading may find common ground and through that we come to a consensus for a path forward. I will share stories, articles, and books that I find to be relevant to a better path forward.

  Politics, oh the joy! Harris and Trump. Republicans and Democrats. Left and right. Freedom and...freedom. Well, that's what they say. To listen to our major parties rhetoric, each one is right and each one is wrong. The truth of the matter is that both are, uh, both? Both have presidential qualities and both have proposed policies that are, honestly, good and bad.  Trump is an overgrown child. An intelligent and successful overgrown child but a child nonetheless. One could argue wither his success is through bully tactics or business acumen, but he is successful. He is childish in his mannerisms and his speech, as far as public appearance can be perceived. It is interesting that his child-like public persona has been somewhat scaled down this election cycle. It is possible that his campaign finally understands that  middle-of-the-road voters have no desire to have the leader of the free world sound like a middle school bully in recess trying to take someone's lunch mone...

Afghanistan

 Foreign policy and geopolitics can be a messy business. It is more messy the more one injects ones nose into someone else's business.  Nation building; more bluntly, empire expansion is costly, and often will fail unless the conquered culture truly accepts its conquered state. Afghanistan is a recent example of this. Trillions of American dollars have been spent on creating and nurturing a democracy. Conspiracy theorist ideas aside, what has happened there is an embarrassment. The majority of Americans, I believe, do feel as though we couldn't be there forever. Pulling out of the country should have been the goal all along, and one should strongly reflect on future occupations of foreign soils after this debacle.
